Hey gang!

Since bill c-61 (
http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Docid=3570473&file=4)
is on its way! There has been a good article as someone (hugh?) posted
earlier in the globe (
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081112.wgtcopyfight1111/BNStory/Technology/home?cid=al_gam_mostrecom).
It also seems that three orgs/individuals are working on this:

   - Fair Copyright Canada (http://www.faircopyrightforcanada.ca/)
   - On-Line Rights Canada (http://onlinerights.ca/) with some letters
   - Digital Copyright Canada (http://www.digital-copyright.ca/)

*Data* (census, maps, satellite images, health data, air quality data,
scientific data, raw data, geospatial, etc.) *are treated differently *then
the cultural content (flickr photos, podcasts. images, video, mashups, etc.)
and DRM is also creeping into the data world (
http://www.gcn.com/online/vol1_no1/43515-1.html?topic=geospatial# and even
open source geospatial!).

So, I wonder if anyone would be interested in honing some brain power
together to draft a letter specific to data? I am by no means a copyright
expert, and I know that Crown Copyright causes lots of problems re - acess
to public datasets, but I would be willing to work with a group to put a
letter together.

Cheers
t
