[CivicAccess-discuss] List of Canadian open data catalogs?

Jonathan,

I was one of the contributors to that OKF spreadsheet: http://opengovernmentdata.org/data/catalogues/ I came up with the region, etc. columns. Before it was a long list in which you couldn't filter by, e.g. "all Canadian catalogues". I also added catalogues and updated/removed incorrect listings.

The BuzzData dataset is probably very close in coverage to datacatalogs.org. It certainly has some that datacatalogs.org doesn't, and vice versa. (It also has statistics bureaus of all countries, but these are not catalogs and should be removed.)

How does one edit datacatalogs.org? I tried editing a catalog, but the changes are not reflected in the public site. This discourages me from investing too much time improving your Canadian data catalog descriptors, as I have no idea what the process is. Also, how does one add new catalogs and add catalogs to groups? Anyway, you are missing:

Ottawa	http://www.ottawa.ca/online_services/opendata/index_en.html
North Vancouver	http://geoweb.dnv.org/
Surrey	http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/658.aspx
British Columbia	http://www.data.gov.bc.ca/
Mississauga	http://www.mississauga.ca/data
Niagara Falls	http://www.niagarafalls.ca/services/open/default.aspx
Prince George	http://princegeorge.ca/cityservices/online/odc/Pages/default.aspx
Hamilton	http://www.hamilton.ca/ProjectsInitiatives/OpenData/
Burlington	http://cms.burlington.ca/Page7429.aspx
Windsor	http://www.citywindsor.ca/003713.asp

Also, http://www.opendatalondon.ca/ and http://montrealouvert.net/ do not belong, as there is nothing catalog-ish about them.

Better naming conventions would go a long way towards scannability/readability. The site's name is "Data Catalogs". Must the words "Data Catalog" appear in each data catalog title? Likewise, "Open Data"?

See you at OGD Camp!

James
